JSC "Borovichi Refractories Plant" has more than 150 years of history and quality traditions. The enterprise possesses reserves of high-grade stock, has advanced production and research base, test and metrology laboratory accredited in the system of federal agency on technical regulation and metrology, experienced personnel.

According to requirements of market, enterprise in 1994 started individual development of proppant production process. In 1996 production of proppants was started at pilot unit and their testing at customers began. As a result of successful approbation in 1998 JSC "Borovichi Refractories Plant" passed to commercial-scale production of aluminosilicate proppants. Up until that time in Russia only foreign proppants have been used at executing operations on hydraulic fracturing.

High quality of Borovichi proppants has been confirmed by testing in independent laboratories "Stim-Lab" (the USA) and "Frac Tech" (Great Britain). Furthermore, American Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ARCCI) has awarded JSC "Borovichi Refractories Plant" a gold medal "For high quality. New millenium" and a diploma for production of high quality proppants.

In 2000 JSC "Borovichi Refractories Plant" was included into International Consortium of Proppants Manufacturers (Stim-Lab Proppant Consortium). Trademark "BORPROP" is registered in Russian Institute for Industrial Property.

In 2003 quality management system of proppant manufacture was certified for conformance to requirements of International Standard API Ql. In annually issued catalogue of American Petroleum Institute register JSC "Borovichi Refractories Plant" is presented among 14 Russian enterprises having Certificate of Conformity to API Ql (seven edition) specifications. At the present time preparation to certification of proppant manufacture QMS for conformance to requirements of API Ql (eight edition) coming into effect from June 15, 2008 is under progress.

On the initiative and with direct involvement of JSC "Borovichi Refractories Plant" specialists national standard for proppants (GOST R 51761-2001 "Aluminosilicate Proppants. Technical Specifications") was developed for the first time in 2001 with account of requirement and recommendations of American Petroleum Institute API RP 60-95. Since November 01,2006 ISO standard 13503-2 "Petroleum and natural gas industries - Completion fluids and materials - Part 2: Measurement of properties of proppants used in hydraulic fracturing and gravel-packing operations" has come into force. That's why taking into account requirements of international standard ISO 13503-2 a number of changes have been introduced into national standard and GOST R 51761-2005 has been issued.
